Dove & Sea is a family winery born from adventure, grounded in love, and shaped by the land we call home.
We met while working with Jean-Michel Cousteau and his nonprofit, Ocean Futures Society—making underwater films that took us from the flooded forests of the Amazon to the icy reaches of the Arctic. Our lives have always been guided by nature, story, and shared purpose. In time, that passion led us back to the soil.
In 2017, we planted our estate vineyard, Summerhill Vineyards, in Cachagua—a hidden corner of Monterey County shaped by coastal fog, cool nights, and rugged beauty. Our estate Syrah vines thrive here, rooted in rocky soil and tended with care. Planted to multiple rootstocks including 10/5BB and Salt Creek, the vines were chosen for their resilience and their ability to express the complexity of this land. The name Dove & Sea was inspired by our daughters—Matilda Dovie and Coral Eve. Like them, this place is full of wild spirit and quiet strength.
In 2020, we were ready for our first harvest. But a wildfire swept through our community, and we made the difficult decision to drop the fruit. It was a loss—but not the end. We didn’t drop our dream. In fact, it deepened our commitment to grow something lasting.
Today, Dove & Sea remains a true family endeavor. Matt’s parents, Donna and Stan Ferraro, have been instrumental from the beginning. Stan works alongside us in the vineyard and winery, and their support is woven into every vintage. Every bottle we make reflects the care and collaboration of three generations working together.
We farm with intention, honoring the land and the wildlife that share it with us. Our winemaking is small-scale and thoughtful, focused on capturing each vintage’s character with honesty and heart.
One of those wines is Âmes Sœurs, our red blend co-fermented in equal parts—50% Petit Verdot and 50% Cabernet Franc. The name comes from the French phrase for soulmates, though when translated literally, it means soul sisters. For us, it’s both. This wine is a tribute to the deep connection between our daughters—a bond full of balance, strength, and joy. Just like our girls, each grape brings its own personality, but together they create something soulful, complete, and enduring.
